What is shot blasting?

This method is used to strengthen, clean, and polish metal. Air blasting is the most popular technique. Compressed air and an abrasive substance (known as "shot") are used in this process. Other materials such as sand, tiny spherical glass beads, and others can be used. This type of blasting is also used before procedures like coloration and welding.

This is a very cost-effective process, and the ability to give a uniformly flat matte surface is advantageous in industries including aircraft, forging, and shipbuilding. One of the most significant advantages is that it increases the end product’s longevity while employing environmentally acceptable components (as opposed to chemical abrasives). Most importantly, shot blasting aids in the bonding of the surface to the final coating (such as epoxy or paint). It’s also useful before applying a coat of galvanised metal, such as zinc, because it ensures better adhesion.
